Broken Bells

12 02 2010

I haven’t been looking forward to much as far as music releases go so far this year, but I’m definitely anticipating the debut album from Broken Bells. Comprised of super producer Danger Mouse and The Shins lead man James Mercer, Broken Bells sounds like it should have some promise. Gorillaz Lite anyone?

Check out their lead single The Higher Road and expect their debut self-titled album on March 9th.

I’ve known my good friend Ben for about as long as I can remember, and the one thing that has always drawn us together is our love of music.  In fact, back in the day we even used to try our hand at producing our own stuff.  At first it was MTV Music Generator, then we graduated to Fruity Loops, and eventually Guitar Center became our playground (an expensive one at that).  Eventually I realized I wasn’t that good at the whole production thing, and that I’d be better off sticking to blogging (which I’m no good at either).  Ben, on the other hand, went on to become Thepilot.

Check out his group OPM and their debut instrumental album, OPM: enotions, and it’s magnificent musicness of hip-hop, soul, bossa nova, house and West Coast here.

How To Make It In America

9 02 2010

I don’t watch a lot of television. Really. I’ve never really thought about why either, although it could be that the feeling of my brain slowly turning to mush doesn’t sit well with me. I’ve never been great with mushy stuff.

With that said, I have been looking forward to one particular TV show and now it’s finally here. How To Make it In America is about two guys trying to make a name for themselves in the New York fashion scene. Just my cup of tea! The first episode is set to air on February 14th, but if you can’t wait until then HBO has been kind enough to post it here.

Or if you prefer to watch it in style, you can attend one of the exclusive screenings this Thursday, February 11th. You can rsvp here. See you there.

She Came Along

2 02 2010

Somehow I totally slept on this track by Sharam, featuring Kid Cudi. Hey, it happens. Luckily I stumbled across the track in my iPod recently and more than made up for it by rotating the hell out of it the past few weeks as you might’ve seen in my last post. I also thought the treatment on the video was pretty good so I thought I should post it.

If you’re not familiar, Sharam is 1/2 of the production duo Deep Dish. His solo album is pretty solid, so you should def check it out if you have the chance.
