How To Make It In America

9 02 2010

I don’t watch a lot of television. Really. I’ve never really thought about why either, although it could be that the feeling of my brain slowly turning to mush doesn’t sit well with me. I’ve never been great with mushy stuff.

With that said, I have been looking forward to one particular TV show and now it’s finally here. How To Make it In America is about two guys trying to make a name for themselves in the New York fashion scene. Just my cup of tea! The first episode is set to air on February 14th, but if you can’t wait until then HBO has been kind enough to post it here.

Or if you prefer to watch it in style, you can attend one of the exclusive screenings this Thursday, February 11th. You can rsvp here. See you there.

The Lineup

19 01 2010

I started my morning with the following text message.

Needless to say I was a little excited.

Coachella ’10

4 01 2010

Something about Mondays has always made me a bit restless, and today was no different. If anything, it was probably worse. Just knowing that today was the first Monday of the year got me thinking about the 51 Mondays I have left to go in 2010. Yikes.

So what did I do about it? I gave myself something to look forward to and bought my ticket to this year’s Coachella. Normally this would be the part of the entry where I post the flyer to the event, but there is no flyer. Why? Because the lineup hasn’t been announced. Yup, I bought a ticket to an event where I have no idea who’s performing and in a weird way it actually makes it a little more exciting that way.

#1 on my wish list for Coachella 2010…

I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

The Blood Arm

1 06 2009

How could I forget to mention that The Blood Arm opened up the show at the Detroit Bar?  This weekend was my second chance getting to see them, and from my experience they put on a very good show.

Watch this music video for their song “Suspicious Character” and try not getting the chorus stuck in your head all day.  I dare you.

We Are Scientists

1 06 2009

Lucky me got to check out We Are Scientists at the Detroit Bar over the weekend. My favorite band + jack & cokes = a good time. I even got the chance to chat with Keith about our alcoholic beverages of choice, traveling, and relationships. You know how that goes.

We are scientists…well, at least he is.

Since I wasn’t able to get any video footage, here’s a bonus music video for you guys.

Shouts:

  • To Keith and the rest of the guys for putting on an awesome show.
  • To Francine for copping the tickets. Thanks again!

Memorial Day Weekend

25 05 2009

What a whirlwind of a holiday weekend! Some of the highlights of the past few days include the Santogold show at Empire, my cousin Mima’s graduation and graduation party, and partying it up at the House of Blues for my good friend Rachel’s birthday. Too bad I didn’t have less to drink, otherwise I might actually remember seeing the Beat Freaks tear it up with this performance:

Shouts:

  • Mima for graduating with her accounting degree from my alma mater, Sac State. Good to see that all the studying and not partying with me paid off!
  • Happy 25th birthday to Rachel!! Your quarter life crisis starts…now!

Game 7

18 05 2009

I always love watching game #7 of a seven game series, but who doesn’t? It brings out the best in its competitors and gives the fans a chance to see who really “wants it” more. I can finally cross attending a game 7 playoff game off my bucket list because I was able to check out the final game of the Lakers and Rockets series. It didn’t turn out to be the nail biter I hope for, but the energy in the building was still pretty amazing.

Shouts:

  • The hook up at UNDFTD for the dope playoff shirts.
  • Derrick for the deal on the tickets. Expect to hear from me come Finals!!

Weenie Roast 2009

18 05 2009

So I went to check out KROQ’s annual Weenie Roast this year and what a lineup it was. I only showed up for the second half of the day, but was still able to check out Silversun Pickups, Weezer, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jimmy Eat World, Kings of Leon, Rancid, and DJ AM & Travis Barker.

The highlight of the day for me was Weezer covering MGMT’s “Kids” and throwing Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face” in the middle without missing a beat.

Loungin’.

WEEZ

Silversun Pickups.

SSPU

Kings of Leon.

The best set of the day for me went to DJ AM & Travis. Truth be told I wasn’t really expecting much from a DJ set (in fact I was hoping it was just an intro to Blink-182 making a suprise appearance, which they didn’t), but they tore it down. They ran through everything from The White Stripes to Biggie, and even had Warren G show up to perform “Regulate.” Wow.  I’m glad to see these are doing well and still doing their thing.

Audiotistic

10 05 2009

I went to Audiotistic over the weekend and I have to say I had a lot of fun…maybe too much fun. After weeks of preparing to hear some really good music, including The Cool Kids, Reflection Eternal, The Roots, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, and Chromeo, I almost forgot that there were live acts there! I blame it on the Joose cuz it sure had me feelin’ loose…haha. Regardless of how it played out I still had some really good times with some really good people. Until next time…
